The Kagyu Monlam is organized annually under SABA, the South Asia Buddhist Association, a charitable trust founded by Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa. SABA undertakes many activities across the Indian Himalayan region with the focus of preserving the Karma Kagyu lineage and its precious teachings of the Buddhadharma by supporting monastic and Buddhist lay communities, pioneering new models of education, and undertaking a variety of community service projects.

In addition to organizing the Kagyu Monlam each year, SABA’s other current projects include: The Karmapa Center of Education; the Tilopa Institute, a monastic school in Himachal Pradesh; Construction of Karma Shedrup Ling Monastery in Kalimpong and The Palace Pomra temple complex in Ladakh; and, providing healthcare, education and other service activities to lay communities.
